The following study is a retrospective analysis of a 13-week program combining chiropractic adjustments with dietary and nutritional intervention, exercise guidance, and weight management counseling.  Of the 30 enrolled participants, 16 completed the program and their results showed significant reduction in weight and body mass index* (BMI).  The average weight of participants who completed the program decreased from 190.5 pounds to 174.9 pounds, and the average BMI decreased from ~30.9 kg/m² to ~28.5 kg/m².

This study suggests that a multimodal intervention combining chiropractic care with diet, exercise, and counseling was associated with meaningful weight loss and BMI reduction over 13 weeks in participants who completed the program.

Terminology:

Body Mass Index - Obesity can be diagnosed by body mass index, abbreviated BMI. For most people, BMI is a reasonable estimate of body fat, calculated using height and weight. However, BMI may not be a good estimate for muscular athletes, in which the BMI is elevated in the obesity range but does not have excess body fat. There are many BMI calculators online that can calculate one's BMI. The basic calculation is multiplying one's weight in pounds by 703, then dividing by one's height in inches, and then dividing by it again.

General guidelines for BMI:
Obesity: 30 - 39.9
Severe obesity: 40 and higher
